Have you ever noticed that most watches in ads show the same time? 10:09:36? Why is that?

What’s the story behind this time?

I dont know the answer, but am very curious now that you pointed it out. I never realized that.

Because it is appealing to the eye…AND…it allows the company name to be seen on the watch face in the ad.

That is by far the most luxurious time of day. It’s mid-coffee-break at Fortune 500 companies.

If you look at ads with hands on they will nearly all be set to 10 minutes past 10 or 10 minutes to 2.
This is meant to be aesthetically pleasing – like a smile.

    wow, i never noticed that

    yeah…noticed that many times…

the reason is purely aesthetic. A watch reading 10:10 has a clean, symmetrical look. Also, the hands don’t obscure the watchmaker insignia, which is usually located directly below 12 o’clock.

Apparently, the practice started in the 1920s, and it stuck.
